Sear appointed to lead Australian Men’s Lacrosse Sixes Program to LA28

Lacrosse Australia has today announced the appointment of Adam Sear as head coach of the Australian Men’s Sixes team.

The West Australian native, who is currently based in Florida in the United States, was most recently head coach of the California Palms in the inaugural Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL) season.

Lacrosse Australia Chair Abbie Burgess, said that the appointment of Sear was the first of a number of key appointments set to be unveiled over the coming weeks as the Australian Olympic lacrosse program starts to take shape.

“We were fortunate to have a number of highly-credentialed candidates come forward throughout this process but Adam stood out with a very clear and articulate plan for an athlete-centred program that introduced new ideas and concepts whilst maintaining a clear focus on the strengths of Australian lacrosse culture,” she said.

“This, coupled with Adam's unique background, made him an incredibly attractive proposition for the program which was really hard to let pass.”

Sear’s wealth of lacrosse knowledge comes via a distinguished college career at the University of Maryland and with the Australian Men’s National Field program, as well through coaching stints at the University of Michigan, Notre Dame University and the California Palms.

“Adam has extensive knowledge of the game and a variety of connections throughout the global lacrosse community, from which he will be drawing to develop the calendar of events and camps to ensure that we are preparing the Men’s squad to be on the podium at LA2028,” Ms Burgess said.

“We are thrilled to be able secure someone with Adam’s depth of knowledge and passion for lacrosse in Australia and we are really excited to see this program really step to the forefront in our relentless quest for Olympic success.”

Sear said that representing Australia had always been one of the greatest honours of his life.

“I’ve been fortunate to work in some elite environments, but this is different. It’s an opportunity to represent our country, lead a program with real purpose, and contribute to something that strives to meet the highest of standards,” he said.

“My vision is to lead a program that stays true to who we are as Australians - a team that reflects the best of our athleticism and competitiveness. That foundation is built on effort, attitude, and attention to detail. It starts with this group, and how we carry ourselves now will define the identity of the program moving forward.

“I am most excited about the chance to represent Australia at the most elite level - the Olympics. That opportunity means a great deal to me. I’m excited to give everything I have to the role and to the players, and to support this group as we build something we can all be proud of.”

Sear will officially take the reins in the coming weeks, returning to Australia in June to meet with key players and staff, as well as to observe the Senior National Championships in Melbourne.

His immediate focus is on assisting to select the Men’s National Sixes Squad for 2026 and prepare for the Canada Super Sixes event in October.
